The challenge
Alpiq operates and trades battery storage for its customers. The data behind it — market participation, performance, availability and settlements — lived in several systems and was hard for asset owners to read. Format-3 designed a portal that makes it clear; it then had to be built on real data and to stay consistent as new views are added.
What we did
- Turned Format-3’s design into an Angular component library — charts, gauges, tables, a Gantt chart and calendar — documented in Storybook and published as a package the portal consumes.
- Built the portal on top of it: overview, asset map, analysis, financials and settlements, maintenance planning and an admin area, all following the asset or pool the user selects.
- Connected the dashboards to Alpiq’s data sources, including revenue data from the data warehouse and asset details from the master data.
- Built support ticketing on Jira Service Management with comments and attachments, plus real-time notifications over server-sent events.
- Contributed to the Rust gateway that serves the portal — users, permissions scoped to contracts, and persisted maintenance events.
The result
One consistent portal for Alpiq’s BESS customers, built on a shared component library so new views follow the design system from day one.
